EasyOptOuts review

Green - recommended Best value · reviewed July 2026

Independent, founder-owned · Sacramento, US · ~2020

Bottom line

For most people on a budget, this is the one to buy. EasyOptOuts costs $19.99 a year, tied Optery for the best measured effectiveness in Consumer Reports' 2024 study (at roughly a twelfth of the price of some rivals), asks for less of your data than anyone else here, and runs no third-party trackers at all. It's a genuinely small, self-funded, two-person shop - which is both its charm and its main risk.

Worth saying plainly: EasyOptOuts has no affiliate program, so we earn nothing if you sign up. We're recommending it purely on the merits.

OwnerEasyOptOuts.com (LLC) - independent, self-funded, run by two founders (Tyler Murphy and "Ben"). No parent company; no outside investors.
"Both ends" conflict?None found. No evidence the founders operate a data broker, people-search site, or ad-data business. Its marketing explicitly rejects that model.
Data you hand overName (and previous names), email, addresses, phone, year of birth (not full DOB), relatives. Explicitly no SSN, driver's license, or power of attorney.
Sells your data?States it never sells your data. No third-party trackers, ad pixels, or analytics on the site. Shares data only to perform opt-outs or when legally required.
SecurityEncryption at rest/in transit, passwordless login, staff access gated by biometric MFA. No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 - all self-reported. No known breach.
Independent test65% removed in 4 months (Consumer Reports) - tied for best, cheapest tested. An independent, unpaid Privacy Guides test found 73–90% over 3 months.
Coverage & method200+ sites, 100% automated. Cannot reach sites needing manual/notarised requests - notably PeopleConnect (Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search).
Price (2026)$19.99/year, single plan. 25% non-profit discount. 150-day refund guarantee. No family plan (each person needs their own).
Affiliate link?No program exists - we earn nothing from this recommendation.

Who owns it - and can you trust them?

EasyOptOuts is about as far from the "data conglomerate" model as this category gets. It's a small, self-funded operation run by two self-described childhood friends (Tyler Murphy and a co-founder who goes by "Ben") out of Sacramento, with no VC backing and no parent company. We found no evidence anywhere - company pages, business filings, press, community discussion - that its owners also run a data broker, people-search site, or ad-tech business.

Built to collect less, not more

Its own pitch leans on data minimisation: it explicitly will not ask for your SSN, driver's licence, or power of attorney, and it criticises competitors for over-collecting. For a service whose whole job is handling your identity, asking for less of it is exactly the right instinct.

The flip side of "small and independent" is key-person risk. This is our own read, not a reported fact: a two-person business has no disclosed succession plan, so if the founders ever stop running it, it's unclear what happens to the operation (and your stored details). For $19.99 a year that may be a fine bet - just go in with eyes open.

Does it actually work?

Unusually for a budget option, yes - and it's independently verified twice over. In Consumer Reports' 2024 study it removed 65% of exposures in four months, essentially tied with Optery's 68% for the best result of the seven paid services tested, at a fraction of the cost. Separately, Privacy Guides ran its own unpaid test (reviewers bought the subscription themselves) and found 73–90% removal over three months.

The honest caveat is coverage. Because it's fully automated, it can't handle sites that demand manual, notarised, or mailed requests - most notably the PeopleConnect network (Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search). Privacy Guides also flagged that it auto-submits opt-outs to about ten non-searchable databases whether or not your data is confirmed there, which arguably should be opt-in. And both independent tests used small volunteer samples, so treat the exact percentages as directional.

Your privacy & data

Data is stored encrypted in a US Google Cloud database, and the company says it shares your information only to perform opt-outs or when legally required - with one narrow carve-out: if you're enrolled through an employer's business plan, it may share your contact email with that organisation for billing. There are no third-party analytics or ad trackers on the site, which is rare and welcome.

The one retention wrinkle: while backups (7 days) and logs (30 days) are short-lived, the policy says payment records and customer emails are kept indefinitely. That's longer than strictly necessary, and worth knowing.

Security

EasyOptOuts describes encryption at rest and in transit, passwordless authentication, and internal access to customer data gated behind biometric MFA, and we found no reports of a breach. But there are no independent security certifications - no SOC 2, no ISO 27001 - so every security claim is the company's own word rather than a third-party audit. For a two-person shop that's not unusual, but it's a genuine gap versus certified competitors, and the reason this doesn't score even higher.

Pros

  • $19.99/year - by far the cheapest here
  • Effectiveness tied for best (Consumer Reports; Privacy Guides)
  • No SSN/ID required; collects the least data
  • No third-party trackers; states it never sells data
  • 150-day refund guarantee; no affiliate agenda

Cons

  • Bot-only; can't reach PeopleConnect sites
  • No SOC 2 / ISO 27001 (all self-reported)
  • Two-person team - key-person risk (our read)
  • No family plan; keeps billing email indefinitely
